You will use your trade experience to make a real difference in the lives of others. As a Trades Instructor, you’ll be delivering hands-on, practical training to prisoners, helping them gain employable skills for life after release. You’ll work as part of a collaborative and supportive Industries team at Acacia Prison. This is a permanent, full-time role based in Wooroloo, WA.
As a Trades Instructor in the Industries team, you’ll make a positive impact by:
- Delivering trade-based training in a workshop or industry environment to prisoners
- Supervising inmate work teams to meet daily production, safety and operational standards
- Promoting education, employment and personal development pathways for prisoners
- Maintaining tool and equipment control, conducting daily audits and pre-start checks
- Contributing to sentence management processes through reporting and inmate observations
- Ensuring compliance with Work Health & Safety policies and prison security requirements

You work well within structured systems and are confident in managing teams, delivering training, and maintaining a safe, respectful workplace. You’re passionate about rehabilitation and helping people prepare for a more positive future.
To be successful in this role you’ll have:
- A relevant trade qualification (Certificate II or III) or willingness to obtain within 12 months
- Sound knowledge of workplace safety and WHS requirements in a workshop or industry setting
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to adapt your style to suit a diverse group
- Experience in delivering structured learning or supervising others in a trade environment
- A valid driver’s licence and current forklift licence (or willingness to obtain)
- The ability to obtain DOJ clearance and pass all relevant background checks, including a National Police Check
