You’ll play a key role in helping inmates gain vital trade experience that prepares them for life post-release.
You’ll be part of the Industries & Trades team at Clarence Correctional Centre, the largest correctional facility in Australia.
You’ll help inmates build textiles trade knowledge while contributing to a safer, more respectful correctional environment.

As a Trade Instructor – Textiles in the Industries & Trades team, you’ll make a positive impact by:

  • Supervising inmates’ work in the textiles industry and encouraging rehabilitation through trade engagement
  • Implementing training programs and supporting skill development in a workshop environment
  • Maintaining a safe and compliant work area in accordance with WHS policy and corrective services procedures
  • Monitoring inmate behaviour and reporting on incidents or risks
  • Managing tool and equipment usage including pre-starts and daily audits
  • Supporting reintegration goals through skill-building and case management input

To be successful in this role, you’ll have:

  • Certificate III in Textiles or working towards this qualification
  • Willingness to complete Certificate III in Correctional Practice (if not already held)
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience working in a trade environment
  • Knowledge of workshop operations, safety protocols, and relevant regulations
  • Ability to mentor and teach inmates with professionalism and care
  • Strong communication skills and high attention to detail
  • A valid driver’s license

Opened in mid-2020, this 1,700-bed state-of-the-art facility is the largest correctional Centre in Australia.
